A few weeks ago I had to go to Vienna for a meeting and we decided to combine the trip with a little family adventure. We left Lilly at home with my sister and my parents and took Finn on the night train to Vienna. What an adventure!
We left Thursday night at 10pm and took the overnight train. We had booked beds to get some rest to use all our time well in Vienna. Finn and I slept in one bed and it went well. Ben slept on the top bunk bed.
At 7:30 in the morning (the next day) we arrived in Vienna and my uncle Jens came and picked us up. We had breakfast at my aunt Barbara's house and then went to explore the city.
After a brief stop at the Stadtpark we went to the Stephansdom and to the 1.Bezirk. We met up with my youngest cousin Larissa and together we went for lunch at Tresniewsky. A wonderful spot in Vienna where they serve dark bread with lots of different spreads. We also had a little beer with it!
After an icecream for desert we continued to spend the afternoon at the zoo, Tiergarten Schoenbrunn. Vienna has a beautiful old zoo right next to the castle Schoenbrunn. We met up with one of my other cousins Eva and her girls, Nikita and Katja. We stayed until the zoo closed and walked home through the gardens of the castle.
That night Barbara and Larissa put Finn to bed so Ben and I could go out for a nice dinner. We chose Korean food and it was delicious. But our night out did not last long as we were tired from the train ride the night before.
The next day (Saturday) I had my meeting in the morning. Finn and Ben went to the Naturhistorische Museum (Natural Science Museum) with Larissa and Finn loved it. They had a moving dinosaur there. Finn still keeps talking about it. After a brief tour through the city they went home for lunch and nap time.
I met up with them at home after a quick stop to the Naschmarkt and in the afternoon we went to the Prater. A big amusement park in the middle of Vienna. Probably best known for the Riesenrad. It was a beautiful afternoon and pretty busy. We wandered around, took several rides, played games and ate cotton candy.
For dinner we met up with Jens at a typical Viennese beisl around the corner from their house. It was still a beautiful evening and we got the luxury of sitting outside.
At 10pm Jens dropped us off at the train station again and home we went again.
