Many, many years ago during one of Ben's first trips to Austria I took him to a nearby mountain and to a bird show there. My nephew Philipp (now 11) was so small at then that he peed on Ben while sitting on his shoulder :-) We like to tell this story!
On a recent nice day we decided to take our kids there. The mountain is called Pfaender and we can actually see it from our house. It is a small mountain overlooking Bregenz, our capital and the Bodensee.
We got a close parking spot, which is always helpful with the kids and we took the newly renovated cable car up the mountain. The kids ride in my dad's cable car a lot, so they are used to us. But they still enjoy every ride up a mountain.
On top there is a lot to do: we started off with playing for a while at the great big playground. We then had an ice cream to get some strength back and headed off to the animals. They have a small wildlife park up there with local animals and we spent lots of time looking at them. The Steinboecke were angry with each other and fighting and Finn was fascinated.
The park is arranged in a little loop that you can walk along and close to the end is a bird show. The Eagle Observatory holds different birds that they let fly. The show was really nice, but too long for us and we ended up leaving as one of the birds decided to stay out longer to fly than expected.
We then walked back up to the cable car, had some more snacks and headed back down. It was really beautiful up there and I think we will go back soon.
This picture is taken looking at our house. It is behind my shoulder.
The playground was a big hit.
The view over the lake is spectacular. You can see Austria below, Germany to the right and Switzerland to the left.
Steinboecke were fighting.
Whatever Finn does, Lilly wants to do as well.
The bald eagle they had at the show.
The cable car we took up and down with the Swiss Mountains in the background.
